Sightlines – Brooklyn Brewery Creates VP of Business Development Role

THE GIST
Brooklyn Brewery hired industry veteran Dave Duffy as its new Vice President of Business Development—a role specifically created for him. Duffy brings to Brooklyn more than 20 years of experience in the beer industry, including positions at New Belgium, Boston Beer Company, and Great Divide.

WHY IT MATTERS
Duffy’s appointment is the latest in a continuing trend of established, larger craft breweries installing talent at an executive level. Stone recently hired ex-Pom Wonderful president Dominic Engels as CEO, and Ommegang brought on former Diageo exec Doug Campbell as president.

Duffy’s most recent role was at L.A.-based advisory and investment firm, First Beverage group. First Beverage has recently advised on major transactions in the beer world, including Boulevard Brewing’s sale to Duvel Moorgat and 10 Barrel Brewing’s sale to AB-InBev.

The move demonstrates that Brooklyn's seeking someone to help guide its business as its plans become ever more ambitious. As well as a busy domestic schedule Brooklyn also has numerous overseas and export plans in action and in development. These include a brewing partnership with its European importer Carlsberg through its new brewery Nya Carnegiebryggeriet and a contract brewing arrangement in Australia with Coopers Brewery.
