THE GIST
Former POM Wonderful president Dominic Engels will become Stone Brewing Co’s new CEO on Sept. 6th. This follows last September's news that Stone co-founder Greg Koch has become the company's executive chairman. Co-founder Steve Wagner will remain Stone’s president.
WHY IT MATTERS
This is the latest link in a long chain of transition at the longstanding San Diego brewery. In addition to Koch’s transition to his new role, longtime brewmaster Mitch Steele recently departed after 10 years.
In addition to taking the reins in San Diego, Engels will also have the added responsibility of overseeing operations at Stone’s new facilities in Richmond, Virginia and Berlin, Germany. But he’ll also have Stone’s vast resources at his command in order to ensure the West Coast brewery continues to meet its growth targets—including the $90 million recently invested in Stone by private equity firm VMG Consumer Partners.
