As we noted last week, going beyond surface level with a Mexican Lager can give it local resonance and keep it from being a flash-in-the-pan novelty. The Tank Brewing Co. in Miami took this to heart: Last year, the brewery drew up designs for a Mexican-style Lager, which it intended to call El Chingon. But the brewery ultimately decided to launch the beer in November as Padron, a 4.3% “Cuban-American Lager” named for the brewery’s owner, Carlos Padron, and as a reference to Miami’s sizable Cuban community.
