MillerCoors revealed yesterday that it's acquired a majority interest in Revolver Brewing of Granbury, Texas. It's the third brewery MillerCoors has added to its craft portfolio, Tenth & Blake, since July 20, following Georgia’s Terrapin Beer Company and Oregon’s Hop Valley Brewing.
WHY IT MATTERS
It seems October 10 is looming large for the MillerCoors acquisition team, as it continues to invest heavily in the wake of the impending AB-InBev/SABMiller merger. Another pattern emerging from these transactions is that MillerCoors is acquiring breweries in key distribution territory. This could mean it's looking to strengthen its distribution ties through the acquisition of more breweries as it looks to build a stronger network in the post ABI/SABMiller merger marketplace.
Which begs the question: how many more breweries can we expect MillerCoors to acquire before October 10? And perhaps a better question still: which kind of breweries, and why?
