THE GIST
Simon Thorpe, President and CEO of Duvel Moortgat USA, has announced he'll resign from his position at the end of August. Thorpe, who will continue to serve in an advisory capacity until then, will be replaced by Jeff Krum, who is currently serving as Boulevard Brewing Company's vice president of corporate affairs.
WHY IT MATTERS
Thorpe's departure is the latest in a series of major changes at some of the top positions in craft brewing. From Ballast Point to Boston Beer, the industry is currently witnessing some major personnel shake-ups at the highest levels. This month, Duvel USA also appointed former Diageo executive Doug Campbell as president of its Ommegang Brewery brand. Duvel USA’s marketing director, Jeremy Ragonese, also departed last month, becoming Uinta's CMO.
According to Duvel COO Daniel Krug, Thorpe’s decision to step down has been a mutual one. Thorpe held his position at Duvel USA as President and CEO since 2009. His tenure has proven a successful one, with Ommegang, Boulevard, and Firestone Walker all joining the company's portfolio under his stewardship.
