Megan Stone sits at the intersection of professional brewing, social media, and activism in a way that feels lightyears ahead of wider craft beer—which still struggles to understand how social issues and marketing translate to the brewing floor.
Only two years ago, Stone—who posts as @IsBeerACarb—and other beer professionals were disparaged on the Brewbound podcast as social media influencers supposedly misusing their bodies to get attention and clicks. Now, in 2021, we’re seeing them and others who have worked in the industry and created massive communities on social media leveraging their power to bring attention to exactly that kind of misogyny; sexual harassment; and, in Stone’s case, unsafe and toxic working conditions at Mikkeller.
This year, Stone also won the Craft Beer Marketing Awards’ Woman of the Year.
In a time when there’s increasing noise and energy around these kinds of issues in a million different directions, Stone has gotten real results—and they continue to flex their platform for good.
