HOW TO USE THE FERVENT FEW SLACK

Hello! Welcome to the Fervent Few. We’re so happy to have you! Not only are you about to hang out with some of the coolest people you’ve ever met but you’re supporting all of the great content Good Beer Hunting produces. Conversations happening in Slack influence the way we view beer and the way we approach editorial content. Thanks for being a member.

What is Slack?

Slack is the way we communicate with our Fervent Few members. It’s sort of like a digital bulletin board combined with multiple spaces to have conversations. You can download Slack on your phone (in the App store for whatever device you use) free of charge. You can also use Slack on your desktop.

Our Slack channels are lively! Folks in our Fervent Few Slack, which number close to 500 members, exchange ideas, start meet ups, and get into heated and fun discussions about all things beer. There’s no other community like this on the internet.

Account Settings

Let's start with your account.

To edit your profile on mobile and desktop click your name and then “edit profile.” Once you click “edit profile,” you can change your display name, user name, and add a profile photo.

Notification Preferences

You should also set up your notification preferences. Click on your name and then click preferences.

Here you can set the preferences for your notifications. This is especially helpful on mobile—you don’t want your phone lighting up when we get into an argument about sandwiches. It’ll be hundreds of messages.

You can also set notifications for individual channels, just in case you want to be notified of conversations happening in one particular channel.

Click on the channel name and then click Notification Preferences. This allows you to set notifications per channel on both mobile and desktop.

Channels

Channels are where conversations happen. They’re organized by topic, so you can easily navigate and jump to the channel you want to participate in. Here’s a run down of all the channels we have: check out #introduceyourself, #currentlydrinking, #photography, and #theweeklytopic - these are some of our most lively channels.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to Jim Plachy, Ashley Rodriguez, or Michael Kiser (give them a shout on Slack by writing @ before their names). Likewise, there are tons of GBH editorial folks hanging out in the Fervent Few, so feel free to reach out to any of them, and they can answer your questions!
