A Long Spring Calls for a Second Round of Huitzi

Have you tried 5 Rabbit’s Huitzi Midwinter Ale yet? I first got a taste at a pairing dinner down at Nana’s Organic on the southside that I shared here and I’ve had it a few times since. It remains one of the delights of the season.

From the previous post:

Ginger, hibiscus, thai palm sugar and chamomile are the highlights in this mid-winter brew concept. It perfectly captures the sensation of Spring approaching, but still a month away — brisk, sweet, but still a little nippy.

What’s in a name? From the 5 Rabbit site:

Huitzi is a winter beer that doesn´t wallow in the dark cold days of this season. Like it’s namesake, the Aztec hummingbird god Huitzilopoctli who smashed the winter to allow the sun to return, Huitzi looks forward to the brighter promise of spring. We think of it as a winter cooler.

Who knew we’d have such a long Spring? Randy Mosher, Andrés and Isaac. might have. Which makes me wonder — will there be enough Huitzi to last? I’m not taking any chances. I got my last glass at Fountainhead (photo above), but according to Beermenus.com, it’s also currently stocked at Village Tap and Bad Apple. Hunt!
