These are the words, images, and beers that inspired the GBH Collective this week. Drinking alone just got better, because now you're drinking with all of us.
READ. // "The FBI won't confirm or deny that it's looking into the multiple slaughters." NPR covers the mysterious death of five 2,000-pound bulls in Oregon. The cattle were surgically cut open and drained of all body fluids with no sign of foul play. Scavenging wildlife won't even get close to the corpses. Obviously aliens! This is the perfect Shocktober article!
LOOK. // I had the opportunity to bartend during a Bedouine performance this past weekend and left her set feeling extremely wonderful and happy. Crush your sorry soul into a million pieces and use her buttery-soft voice to super-glue it all back together.
DRINK. // Hopewell Brewing Co.’s Close Enough
A sweet, simple Pilsner that drinks carefree but happens to be brewed entirely with regional and local ingredients. A Midwest yum.
READ. // "A goose will wreck your shit because a goose does not know fear." I revisited this piece every day last week, reveling and re-reveling in my favorite lines from it. There are simply too many. Gray Chapman—check her out on Gee Bee Aitch Dot Com as well!—is such a goddamn delight.
LOOK. // This collection from French photographer Stefan Draschan might make you reconsider your wardrobe on your next trip to the museum.
DRINK. // Monday Night Brewing's Ante Meridiem Blend No. 3
If you chat with me on the regular, you know that lately I've been mentioning the weather an awful lot. First of all, I'm sorry. Second of all, as I type this, it's dipping below 70 for the night here in Atlanta. By morning? It'll be in the high 50s. Shit yes. About time. Thank you, Mother Nature. Perhaps it's no wonder, then, that I'm sipping on this Imperial Brown Ale, which was aged on bourbon barrels and boasts additions of Ugandan vanilla beans and maple syrup. It pairs perfectly with the dropping temps and a couple handfuls of peanut butter M&Ms.
READ. // "What I’m trying to tell you is that post-colonialism turned me gay." R. Eric Thomas is one of the funniest voices in America right now, in my extremely unhumble and correct opinion, and I cannot wait for his book, Here For It, which comes out next year. For National Coming Out Day, Thomas bestowed upon us undeserving masses this gift of an excerpt, which follows a young, surly, and just-discovered-cappuccinos Thomas in his early days at Columbia as he navigates college and his own understanding of sexuality.
LOOK. // I'm not sure how to get my hands on this imposter syndrome zine by the folks at Mailchimp, but two things I do know: Goodest Boy Ace is all of us, and Goodest Boy Ace deserves a treat. (Thus ... we all deserve a treat?)
DRINK. // Great Divide Brewing Co.'s Velvet Yeti Nitro Stout
I drank this roasty boy on a cool, drizzly Saturday while tucked inside the cozy confines of Atlanta's Porter Beer Bar. Hard to imagine a better way to welcome fall.
