The human spirit never ceases to amaze me—for better and for worse.

We’re all currently isolated in fear of what is, at present, a virus without a vaccine. Bars are closed, breweries are closed, gyms are closed, as well as schools. For most of us, this feels so unimaginable that even during mandatory statewide shelter-in-place orders, our arrogance and lack of knowledge see us racing to get back to “normalcy.”

I’m trying to see this as an opportunity to reset our lives. A chance for everyone to self-evaluate. A chance to have meaningful connections with people. A chance to modify our treatment of wildlife, and natural habitats. We must all coexist for the betterment of our lives. This virus has made clear how much we all need each other, and social segregation by class, station, church—whatever it is—won’t make for a better future.

As we all quarantine—or self-reset—I hope we come out the other end more compassionate to others, and more careful of our consumption of life around us. If not for ourselves, at least for our children. Let’s provide more options for them.

This picture was taken in early February, just a few weeks before where we all are now. It was time spent with family from out of town. We never thought for one second that it could possibly be the last time the two babies of the family would see each other for however long.

This virus is scary, but what’s worse is if we all come out of this the same as before.
