The Praça do Comércio in Lisbon isn't unlike other public squares in Europe. Street vendors peddling hats, sunglasses, and selfie sticks take advantage of the foot traffic, while a few local artists show off their drawings and homemade jewelry, patiently biding their time.
With its panoramic view of the Tagus River, the square is a popular spot for visitors. They flock to the prime photo location at the water's edge, snapping selfies and family photos before moving on as quickly as they came. Barely any of the tourists will revisit this spot tomorrow, once it’s been ticked off their to-do lists. But the artists will still be here, waiting in the sun.
