What started as a suggestion to find E.Z. Orchard and a local cider bar in Portland, OR turned into tasting through some of the best ciders to ever grace my lips. At Bushwhacker Cider, this bottle of Art + Science West Valley was one of them.
Apart from the 1970s Dirty Harry pinball machine and a tabletop Pac-Man arcade, there’s no tech inside the bar. Flags representing various European nations hang along the walls. There’s a dartboard and some tables outside, and there are rows of cider from around the globe. I'm gonna have to come back and taste more of them, it seems.
As the bartender pulled out a couple glasses and began to pour, she described why she’s been fascinated with this cider—apples plucked from creek beds and hedgerows, old homestead orchards and farms. It’s a wild-fermented delight, and after one sip, I was fascinated as well.
