Great Central Brewing Company opens at noon, so I wasn’t too surprised to pull on the handle and find it locked at exactly 12pm on a rainy, morning-after-FOBAB Sunday in Chicago. A security guard hustled over and unlocked the door to the cavernous taproom that’s home to an enormous contract brewery that makes beer for a handful of local breweries, not to mention a handful of delicious, German-style house beers.
Sitting down to an empty bar with just two other souls occupying the entire building offered a nice respite from the typical Windy City taproom. I had a few pours while chatting up the security guard who let me in and the bartender who doubles as a packing assistant. As it turns out, sometimes drinking "alone" is just fine, thanks.
