Continuing a surreal string of acquisition in craft beer, AB-Inbev acquires LA brewer Golden Road, who has seen exponential growth in the past couple of years, and brought on former AB people to help run production and operations.
WHY IT MATTERS
The regional footprints for AB-Inbev are continuing to go deeper, but Golden Road marks a territory that is considered "soft" by most craft brewers, giving them a head start in a scene that still offers massive growth potential right at home. As Golden Road's distribution pushed outside LA, it met other regional California brands head-on, including Saint Archer (San Diego) who was recently acquired by MillerCoors, meaning we could have our first big battle between macro-crafts taking place in California. — Michael Kiser
