Good Beer Hunting

262. Read. Look. Drink.

We’re voracious consumers of culture. And each week, a member of our team shares the words, images, and beers that inspired them.

READ.// “In the journey of making, there is no terminus.” I just scored “Takenobu Igarashi A-Z on sale, a collection of work from the Japanese graphic designer. It feels incredible to hold and appreciate images I’ve been staring at through a computer screen for a decade. The crisp, full-color prints are gorgeous, but my favorite pages are the scrappy process sketches layered with tracing paper, Pantone swatches, and masking tape.

LOOK.// The Music Box Theatre in Chicago has been running a fantastic horror series all throughout October. I’m happy to have finally seen the psychedelic, Scooby-Doo-esque chase scene that is Nobuhiko Ôbayashi’s “House” in a beautiful theater and not on my dusty laptop screen.

DRINK.// Modelo Especial
I stuffed two old slices of lime into a can of Modelo the other night for my shifty. I don’t care what anybody says—it is still the best beer ever made. Last week, while in San Francisco, I was able to convince Chris Coomber, co-founder of East Brother Beer Co., to order a Modelo during lunch. He didn’t necessarily say that it was the best beer ever made, but the sparkle in his eyes gave him away.
