Sitting in Triptych Brewing's taproom—which is connected to their brewing facility—in Savoy, Illinois presented a familiar scene in the independent brewing world: a raw, functional space with a backdrop of tanks, sacks of grain, and the sweet smell of a recent boil.

After watching some friends play a few sets among the racks of vintage clothing, used books, and cartons filled with vinyl at Exile on Main's Record Store Day event earlier in the day, I’d noticed certain parallels.

There’s that sense of the charmingly unfinished, and the sense of potential that comes with it. There’s also the renewed energy of the repurposed. And both rely on the local support of those who seek to discover the new, rediscover the old, and find appreciation in craft—whether it's a small batch ale, or a stack of vinyl.
